I’ve always been an ice cream girl, and I always will be. Ice cream and gelato are two of my most favorite things in the world. Never mind what they do to my hips and my belly. You can bet that I will NEVER (ever!) become a fan of frozen yogurt. It’s just not my kind of treat. From the moment I first saw the “coming soon” sign for Swensen’s Ice Cream & Sundaes at the SM Mall of Asia a couple of months back, it’s all I’ve been dreaming about.
San Francisco holds a very special spot in my heart not only because it’s the first city outside of the country that I’ve visited, but also because it exudes an effervescent charm that is quite impossible to forget. Swensen’s originated from San Francisco in 1948 and the shop still stands on the corner of Union and Hyde Streets. Unfortunately, I didn’t know about it when I was in the area. So when its first Philippine branch opened last September 15, I knew I just had to be there. The ice cream shop is bright and cheery, perfect for chilling [pun intended] with family and friends. I was alone, as usual, and ordered the Hot Fudge Bonus (P115) — creamy vanilla ice cream with hot chocolate fudge, caramel, almond bits, banana crowned with whipped cream, cherry and delicious wafer. It was so good that I had to order another item: Mr. San Francisco (P115). This one is a scoop of real strawberry ice cream topped with a yummy chocolate-covered wafer cone. What can I say? Life is too short to eat frozen yogurt. Ice cream makes life a lot sweeter and happier!
