Cupcakes are still the rage these days, and I guess they’re here to stay. Over the years, not only have our local cupcakes become prettier and tastier but also, cupcake shops have stepped up in terms of cuteness — first there was Cupcakes by Sonja‘s charming store in Serendra; and then Sophie’s Mom‘s cute neighborhood bakery in San Antonio Village, Makati; now comes Vanilla Cupcake Bakery in Glorietta. It opened only last week but it has been drawing in the crowds already.
Located on the second level of Glorietta, right in front of National Bookstore and very near the access to SM Makati, is this bakery that specializes in cupcakes, cookies and panna cotta. The shop is so chic and inviting, it’s impossible for me to resist going inside.
The goodies are freshly-baked and frosted in the kitchen behind those heavy drapes. The heavenly scent of vanilla wafts through the air as I choose which cupcake to try from a variety of choices in the display case.
There are no surprises in terms of cupcake flavors — just the usual vanilla, chocolate, mocha, caramel, red velvet, and some baby cheesecakes as I like to call them.
I’m not a fan of red velvet, so I opt for something a bit different: Banana & Nutella Cupcake (P65), which is delicious and refreshing even though the frosting doesn’t really taste like Nutella.
I also decide to try the panna cotta (P70), which comes in a small jar accented with a pretty little ribbon. The panna cotta, topped with chunks of sweet mango, is not as creamy as I had hoped but I give it a thumbs-up for presentation. I can forgive all the imperfections just because of the cuteness of everything in the store. I just love pretty things!
I want to bring my dessert-loving girlfriends to the Vanilla Cupcake Bakery and be surrounded by cupcakes so we can all feel pretty just like Marie Antoinette. I don’t mind the prices of the goodies because I understand that shop rental rates in major malls are not cheap. Besides, did I mention that the place is so pretty, pretty, pretty? It really is.
Have a sweet day!
