Last February 15, Discovery Primea marked the first anniversary since it officially opened its doors in 2015. I just realized that I have not posted about our family’s staycation experience in this luxury hotel located at 6749 Ayala Avenue in Makati. I only blogged about Discovery Primea‘s afternoon tea service but never got around to writing about the hotel itself. Well, I guess now is the time.
Towering at 68 stories high — in fact, it is visible even all the way from our Service Road in Pasay City — Discovery Primea has 141 rooms available for short hotel stays as well as for long-term residential use. From the moment we entered the hotel’s driveway, I already observed a gesture from the staff which, it turns out, is their signature hand gesture in the entire establishment: right hand placed over the left portion of the chest. It signifies warm and heartfelt service. True enough, while waiting for our 2-bedroom suite to be ready, we were given these refreshing welcome drinks.
When we went up to our suite a moment later, surprise sweet treats greeted us on the dining table. There was a whole birthday cake for my mother-in-law (the reason for our weekend staycation) and there were also some cupcakes, brownies, fruit tarts and chocolate along with a welcome card signed by the hotel’s general manager.
It seemed that upon booking, the hotel staff went through my Twitter account and discovered my juvenile activities there (i.e., fangirling over One Direction), hence the personalized cupcakes. Oh, by the way, I hate Zayn Malik.

And this is the main bedroom of our 2-bedroom Primea Suite —
The Primea Suite has a floor area of 94 square meters and offers all the comforts of a real home: 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room with study, fully-furnished kitchen (complete with Tefal pots and pans), full-sized refrigerator, a Nespresso machine, high-speed internet, 46″ LED television set, 19″ TV in the bathroom, even a washing machine and dryer. The hotel also boasts of a gym, a chapel (!), a spa and a heated swimming pool overlooking the Makati skyline.

Aside from the prime location, exemplary service, topnotch amenities, and elegant yet cozy rooms, the thing that I enjoyed the most in Discovery Primea was the food. With Executive Chef Luis Chikiamco at the helm, Primea‘s food and beverage outlets offer the best in hotel dining. We had lunch at Restaurant Tapenade, which specializes in Mediterranean cuisine. The term tapenade [tah – peh – nad] refers to “a Provençal dish consisting of puréed or finely chopped olives, capers, anchovies, and olive oil.” From the menu, we tried the Moroccan Gambas, Garlic Mushrooms, and Baklava. I also availed myself of the unique all-you-can-eat Salad Room feature (P690++), which is literally a small room for appetizers and salads. It was amazing.

Breakfast at Tapenade was also delightful because aside from the bread/spread/cheese buffet, guests can also choose from a selection of gourmet breakfast fares like the Australian Wagyu Beef Tapa (which my husband had for 2 consecutive mornings), Lucban Longganisa Picadillo, Primea Eggs Benedict and Ricotta Pancakes.

It’s been six months since we stayed in Discovery Primea but the fact that I can still rave about the food we ate there tells you something. It’s a gastronomic weekend that’s quite hard to forget.
