Barely two months after I signed up on Instagram, I already won a prize from a photo contest there. It was sponsored by InterContinental Manila before it closed down at the end of last year. The contest was called “Memories at InterCon Manila” and I joined, only hoping to win the secondary prize of an overnight stay in any IHG property in the Philippines. But fate (or Instagram) had a better plan for me and I ended up winning the grand prize of a two-night stay at an InterCon hotel in Vietnam. It was a choice between InterContinental Asiana Saigon and InterContinental Hanoi Westlake. I chose the former because I was of the impression that my Vietnamese friends live in Saigon. (I was wrong. Three of them live in Hanoi.) Well, anyway….
After I received my prize voucher, I proceeded to buy a plane ticket to Ho Chi Minh City from the Travel Tour Expo at the SMX Mall of Asia last February. (I have my dearest husband to thank for fully supporting all of my travel plans.) The line at the expo was awfully long, but it was worth it in the end because I got a huge discount. I booked my flight for April, when school is officially out for my daughter Bea. She didn’t want to go to Vietnam with me, though, so it was my younger sister Peachy who tagged along.
InterContinental Asiana Saigon is situated approximately 7 kilometers away from the Tân Son Nhat International Airport. It has reaped various awards such as Asia’s Leading City Hotel and Vietnam’s Leading Conference Hotel. The 21-story hotel is centrally located in District 1 and is very near important landmarks in Saigon just like the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Central Post Office, the City Hall and Saigon Book Street.
Compared with other hotels, InterCon Saigon‘s lobby is not that impressive. It’s actually very simple with a very modern Asian flair.
Our Deluxe Room was very spacious and cozy with a nice, huge bathroom. The bed can comfortably fit 3 adults and a pillow menu is available.
Before going to Saigon, I did a lot of research and found many blog reviews that raved about the buffet breakfast at the hotel’s Market 39 restaurant. Some said that even the locals love to have breakfast there. I agree that the food’s really good but then my expectations were set so high. Sometimes it’s better to just keep the expectations at a reasonably low level.
My favorite part of the hotel though is its swimming pool on the 3rd level. It’s so WONDERFUL! I loved that I peacefully swam there for 2 mornings, enjoyed the perfectly warm water while I prayed and thanked my Creator for blessing me with this trip. I am so grateful.
Of course, the InterCon global brand of hospitality is at its finest in InterCon Saigon. Everyone was very warm and friendly and they can speak good English, too.
Thank you, InterContinental Asiana Saigon for a most memorable and splendid stay!
