Out of all the 365 or 366 days in a year, March 8 was declared International Women’s Day [IWD]. I wonder why. From my research I learned that the first IWD was commemorated in only a few European countries on March 19, 1911. In 1913, they changed the global date to March 8 but I only became aware of this annual event several years ago. It’s so easy for me to remember it because, as it happens, my birthday also falls on the same day. This year, on my 42nd birthday, I decided to celebrate a day early with these amazing women, my good friends:
We just had a simple pizza-pasta-cake-and-tea lunch at one of my all-time favorite places to eat, the very charming and very feminine Cafe Mary Grace in Greenbelt 2.
We immensely enjoyed the Chorizo & Basil Pizza (P508) with its perfect crust and the right blend of flavors. Then we shared three delicious pasta dishes: Classic Carbonara (P290), Seafood Pasta (P320) and Pasta Amatriciana with Italian Meatballs (P290). They were all lovely. But for me, the best part was my customized birthday cake, which I ordered exactly a week in advance.
This Caramel Vanilla Bean Cake adorned with blue and yellow icing flowers was quite expensive at over P2,000 but I knew I would regret it if I didn’t order one. It was absolutely scrumptious! Very light vanilla chiffon layered with luscious homemade caramel covered in vanilla bean frosting and finished with caramelized flakes. It made me so happy!
Cheers to all the women, to girl power, to friendships and to great food!
